The Holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments are recognized as the Word of God and the ultimate rule of Christian faith and practice (2 Tim. 3:16). We do not claim to be a "King James Only" Church. We obtain our interpretation of Scripture from the original Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek texts. The Authorized King James and New King James Versions of the Bible will be the English translations used for all doctrinal preaching and teaching in the Church. Other versions will be accepted on a case-by-case basis. Any interpretive issues will be cleared up by studying the original languages of the Old and New Testaments.
We believe the Ordinances are Baptism (Matt. 28:19) and Communion (Luke 22:19-20), although neither is necessary for salvation, and, therefore, timing and methods are not crucial for obtaining or maintaining proper fellowship with the Lord and the Church. The official ceremonies of the Church to be performed are Marriage between one man and one woman (Matt. 19:5, Eph. 5:31), Ordination (1Tim. 3:1-13), and Burial.
We believe that every child, both born and unborn, has a right to life (Jer. 1:5, Luke 17:2).
We believe that any form of homosexuality, bisexuality, gender modifications, bestiality, incest, fornication, adultery, pedophilia, and pornography are sinful perversions of God's gift of sex (Gen. 2:24; Gen. 19:5,13; Gen. 26:8-9; Lev. 18:1-30; Rom. 1:26-29; 1 Cor. 5:1, 6:9; 1 Thess. 4:1-8; Heb. 13:4).
We believe that euthanasia is immoral (Exod. 20:13).
We believe that divorce is permitted only on the grounds of sexual immorality or abandonment (Matt. 19:9; 1 Cor. 7:15).
We believe Christians are prohibited from bringing civil lawsuits against other Christians or the Church to resolve personal disputes (1 Cor. 6:1-8).
We believe that parents should bring their children up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord (Prov. 13:24, 22:6, 22:15, 23:13-14, Eph. 6:4).
LYERLY EVANGELICAL CHURCH'S
STATEMENT OF FAITH
We believe that the Bible is God's revelation of Himself to all the world in the Person of Jesus Christ, but that revelation will not be fully known without the guidance of the Holy Spirit in the life of someone who has accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior (1 Cor. 2:10-14).
We believe the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments as given in the original languages to be the inspired Word of God (2 Tim. 3:16), and are the supreme and final authority over all of creation (John 1:1-5).
We believe in one Triune God existing in three Persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit
(1 John 5:7).
We believe that Jesus Christ, second Person of the Trinity, self-existent, eternal, the fullness of the Godhead bodily (Col. 2:9), born of the Virgin Mary (Matt. 1:23), lived a sinless life
(Heb. 4:15) in order that He might reveal God to all people and give His life as a ranson for all to redeem sinful man through His shed blood (John 3:16).
We believe there is only one way to salvation and that is through Jesus Christ (John 14:6). We believe that salvation cannot be earned through our works (Tit. 3:5). It is a gift from God and must be received by repentance and faith in Jesus Christ and His sacrifice on the Cross (Eph. 2:8-9).
We believe that all Christian believers are members of the Body of Christ, the one true Church universal, through spiritual unity among Christians, by love of one another and faith in the Holy Spirit, who gives all believers spiritual gifts to serve His Church (1 Cor. 12:1-31).
The mission of Lyerly Evangelical Church is to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ into all the world and proclaim the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ (1 Cor. 15:12-14), reaching those who are lost and bringing them into the discipleship of Jesus Christ (Matt. 28:19-20).
We believe that Jesus Christ will return for His Bride, the Church, (1 Thess. 4:16-17), and at the end of the seven-year Tribulation Period (Mark 13:19), will come again to set up His earthly Kingdom (Rev. 19:11-16).
